Civic Education... After Presidential Elections

to

Civic learning gets a lot of attention during national election cycles, but research tells us that ongoing access to civic education (including teaching about local elections) is fundamental to effectively encouraging youth civic participation. However, many teachers and administrators shy away from teaching about government, politics, and civic issues out of fear of being accused of partisanship. In this workshop, members and partners of the Teaching for Democracy Alliance will share specific strategies for teaching civics in non-partisan, locally oriented, and equity-centered ways. Facilitators will offer concrete classroom-ready resources to use, tips to keep in mind, and stories of how educators from across the country have successfully prioritized civic learning in their communities.
